SIMBADES | Web-Based Village Administration System

Digitizing village administration through document archives, regulatory workflows, and automated database backups.

SIMBADES | Web-Based Village Administration System

The Problem

Paper-based village administration makes records difficult to find and vulnerable to loss. Our team developed SIMBADES as a university project to digitize administrative processes, with requirements derived from government regulations.

My Contribution

I developed the digital archive module for archiving, searching, and downloading documents, and automated weekly database backups. I also analyzed regulations to define application workflows and worked with a teammate on stress and edge-case testing for our application. For UAT, I tested another team’s application.

Process and Decisions

I studied Ministry of Home Affairs Regulation No. 111 of 2014, then worked with the team through discussions and diagrams to translate its provisions into application workflows.

Challenges

The main challenge was interpreting the regulation’s formal, prescriptive language. This was my first experience building an application around regulatory requirements. Team discussions and workflow diagrams helped us establish a shared understanding before implementation.

Results

The digital archive module and automated weekly database backups were completed. The application was deployed for the university assignment but is no longer active.

Reflection

This project helped me understand the development process from requirements analysis through implementation, testing, and deployment. I learned that understanding the workflows and rules behind an application is an essential part of a developer’s work.
